The Plateros In the summer of 1999, a family gets ready to perform at a small outdoor music fest near Shiprock NM, with only a hand full of people in the crowd. Murphy makes his way up to the stage, but decides to do a solo with just his guitar. Murphy and his wife just had a 2nd son, so his bass playing' wife could not take the stage with him because she had to care for the newborn son. Also, the drummer for Murphy called and said he couldn’t make it to the gig, so its a solo night, again. Murphy understands that the show must go on no matter what. From years of playing' with his family he had gained a passion for performing music in any circumstance. Just as he begins to play a few tunes he hears a beat behind him. After completing his set he turns to give thanks for the help to the drummer . To his surprise it was his 7 year old son, Levi, behind the drum set. He picked it up so easy, he stayed in beat, and never slowed down the tempo. The father and son felt something had just happened. They smiled at each other with so much joy they gave thanks to God. That was the beginning of a whole new music journey that this small Navajo family had just begun.
Levi Platero is 16 years old from the Eastern Agency of the Navajo Nation. For generations since the late 50s, Platero's have been know for singing and being musicians within the Tohajiilee Indian Reservation near Albuquerque NM. In 1999, the youngest Platero made his way to the main stage to join the performing members of the family. Levi is one of those few kids that just connects with music if it be drums, keyboards or the GUITAR. Raised in a family of musicians, it was no doubt that this would be the road he would take.
Today Levi Platero and his family band continue to perform music. Since the late 90s young Levi had put away the drums and picked up the Fender Strait and he took control of the stage. His gift to play guitar was amazing in all aspect.
When young Levi plays guitar he takes you to his World of Blues Feeling -- from despair to ecstasy, from delicate grace to raw power, from lost to found. Influenced and inspired by many of the most famous guitar players, Levi owns the magic. His style is original and personal and instantly recognizable. What kind of young man can make or break your heart with his guitar?
Helping out Levi in the band is his father, Murphy Platero on bass guitar and back up vocals, and also Douglas Platero, on drums. Together this trio have yet to break out into the wild BLUES yonder.
