Micki was brought to Los Angeles where his infamous works in the entertainment field would spawn countless hits with the legendary super group Shalamar, and included a career that would rival many in entertainment business history; Three Time Grammy Nominee, Grammy Winner, Grammy Board of Governor candidate, Multi-Platinum Recording Artist and Five Time Native American Music Award Winner.
Micki Free was discovered and managed by Gene Simmons of the legendary “super group”: KISS, and was signed to Interscope Records with his group “Crown of Thorns” and managed by Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley of KISS. Micki was also a member of the hit group “Shalamar” and has worked with Prince, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Diana Ross, Little Steven (from Bruce Springsteen’s Band), Jean Beauvoir famed producer of The Ramones, KISS, Roger Taylor of Queen, and in 2006 Micki was “put up on the wall” (Micki’s original Grammy, custom made guitar, vest worn in the videos, and his eagle honor flute) at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Micki was the first Native American to ride in full northern plains regalia in the world famous Tournament of the Roses Parade and ride as “Chief Ten Bears” for televisions “The History Channel” in the segment “The History of the Texas Rangers”.
Micki has recorded three solo “blues/rock” CD’s for; Cargo/Live Wire Records in London England and three Native American flute CD’s, where he has performed with Jay Leno.
To date Micki is touring and performing as a Grammy Award winning musician on Hard Rock’s Ambassadors of Rock Tour 2008. In 2007 he performed with Aerosmith in London England, also in 2007 he performed with TOTO in Buenos Aires Argentina. In 2008 her performed with The Police, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow and John Mayer at Hard Rock’s Hard Rock Calling Hyde Park London, representing the Seminole Tribe of Florida and inviting the Seminole tribal members to join him onstage to sing Jimi Hendrix’s smash hit “Wild Thing” in front of a crown of over fifty thousand fans strong.
Micki works exclusively for the Seminole Tribe of Florida as the Director of Seminole Heritage Events and Promotions. Micki is also heavily involved in most any positive Native American function helping to promote awareness and goodwill to all of our indigenous tribes. Micki is the chosen “super star performer” for “One Voice for Freedom 2008”, the worldwide charity organization against child slavery, performing at London’s prestigious; Royal Albert Hall in London England September 22nd 2008.
At present in 2008 Micki is in Nashville producing and recording The Seminole Star Search Grand Prize Winners CD VOL-1 for the Seminole Tribe of Florida. This CD and the Seminole Wind DVD-CD box set will be distributed to all Hard Rock hotels and cafes for retail. Micki’s new “blues rock” solo CD entitled “Micki Free~Electric Blues”…My Way! Will be released on Cargo Records London in 2009.
